With it still looking unlikely that we are going to get abroad this summer due to the ongoing pandemic, we will need to find ways to bring the summer holiday to us. A fantastic way to do this is to make the garden as fun a place to be as possible. So when the hot weather comes this year let's be prepared to bust out the hose and fill up the paddling pools and have a little splashy fun with the kids.

Things to think about when buying a paddling pool

What age is it suitable for? You don't want to be buying a pool that is for age 6+ when you only have a 1-year-old in the house, it makes no sense. Make sure, if you do have a baby or toddler especially, to be extra careful of how high the water level is in the pool as they can be dangerous for small children.

How much water the pool can take. Remember that if you are buying a really large pool they need to be filled with new water every day you use them so if you are on a water meter bear that in mind when thinking how big a pool you really need.

Get an electric pump. I'm telling you now that most pools these days are inflatable and don't come with pumps so purchase an electric one like this one from Amazon. It will save you so much hassle.

Age range - 2 years to 6 years

Water capacity - 26 litres

This lovely little pool has an underwater theme and is topped with a rather cute looking turtle as a roof. The roof being there to keep a bit of shade on your little one as they splash around in the sun. It's made from quite a sturdy vinyl and comes with a repair patch just in case.

Age range - 1 year +

Water capacity - 26 litres

This is a proper baby pool as it is made completely with little ones in mind. It has a fantastic sized sunshade and it's not deep at all but just the perfect size for a 1-year-old to sit in. Top tip for this one, you can also bring it inside on less sunny days and put balls in it and it becomes a perfect little ball pit.

Age range - 2 years +

Water capacity - 246 litres

This takes the paddling pool up to the next level as they call it an entertainment centre. It has a built-in slide from one pool to the other and comes complete with four inflatable rings and a ring toss game and a water sprayer. Fully inflated the pool comes to 297 x 193 x 135 cm so it is actually a very decent size. It is suitable for children from 2 years old onwards. I think we will get a good few years out of this one due to the size of it. It comes with balls and rings to play the ring toss game but these are fun on their own for toddlers who haven't quite mastered the ring toss part yet. The slide is great fun and from the back part of the pool, it is not too high to get to the top so even little ones will be able to do it themselves (supervised of course).

Chad Valley 10ft Bouncy Castle and Paddling Pool - £70

Age range - 3 years +

Water capacity - 90 litres

This is an inflatable bouncy castle and it is connected to a splash pool through a water slide, so your little ones can bounce and bounce until they need to cool down when they can slide into the adjoining pool. This is really big and without an electric pump would take so long to pump up. It doesn't come with one so remember to pick one up.

Age range - 3 years +

Water capacity - 990 litres

This is a family-sized pool perfect for most ages, it is great for lounging in the sun with its four inflatable seats which are super comfy. It is made of pre-tested vinyl like most of the pools by Intex. It has 2 drinks holders built-in which is great for hot days and has a convenient drain plug in the floor. This does not come with a pump again so remember to get one. If you are using a hose it will be about 30 minutes to fill this up.

You can pick this up Here.

Age range - 6 years +

Water capacity - 3638 litres

This is a really big pool, better for older children and adults. It inflates in an incredible 2 minutes with an electric pump (not included) and comes complete with a filter pump and a protective cover. This is a great one for parties as it can comfortably fit six adults.

A few extras you might need when purchasing a paddling pool are a pump Here, and a puncture repair kit Here.
