Toddlers and preschoolers generally love splashing around and water play so a water table could be the perfect way to keep them entertained and having fun outdoors. I have compiled a list of the absolute best water tables available for kids right now in 2021. Before we get to that though let's answer some questions you may have to make sure you get the perfect one for your child.
What is a water table?
A water table is quite simply any table you can put water in for a child to play with. They come in many different sizes and with lots of different attachments to make the play more fun but there are also simple versions which are literally just a table with a water bath in to play and splash hands in.
Why is a water table a good toy?
Water tables are fantastic for a great many reasons over and above just the fun aspect. For starters, they help children learn about things like water flow, inertia and momentum in a very practical way and if you are at all interested in STEM learning then learning cause and effect through a water table is a great start. Not only this but they are a great form of sensory play for toddlers too as well as helping their hand-eye coordination and it can help with their fine motor skills as well.
What to think about when picking a water table
The height of the table - of course, this is one of the most important things when buying as you want to know that your child can reach the water and all or any attachments. It won't be much use if you buy one your child cannot use.
The footprint of the table - this is along a similar line but you want to make sure you have the room in your garden or wherever you are keeping it so your child can get all around it comfortably and also you have ample storage space when it is not in use.
How sturdy the table is - one thing you do not want happening is for your child to lean over the table and it to fall over and spill water everywhere so making sure it is pretty tip-proof will be a big plus when purchasing.
How easily or not it drains - most of the common problems with water tables tend to be that the plug leeks or is too easy to remove for children so look at reviews before you buy to make sure this won't be a problem you face.
How to care for my water table
Keeping your water table in great condition is relatively easy with the following simple steps.
Hose it down at regular intervals to get rid of any dirt and mud.
Give it a thorough clean with soap and water after every few uses.
Disinfect if it is been used for group play especially.
Cover when not in use.
Lets get to that list I promised you earlier.
This water table is particularly fun as it has a lot of fun features. Pop the ball or water in the top and it spirals down, turn the hand crank and it turns the water into a lazy river and pours water into the funnel and it turns the wheels. It also comes with five little squirt toys. kids love splashing in water, as I'm sure most toddlers do and this is no exception, it was such a good buy. This is simple to drain with a plug in the centre and easy to clean as well. You can pick this up Here.
This is more of a water wall than a table but it is still great fun, it's really big at around 85cm tall it is the perfect size for children from 18 months to around 4 years. Simply scoop up some water from the base and pour it in the top and watch it cascade down the zigzags, spinners and funnels which can all be moved ad reorganised, again and again, to make new and exciting water flows. You can pick this up Here.
With a really fun pirate theme, this is a great table for group or individual play. It has a real squirting cannon and lots of other interactive features like a pump to make the water move and an anchor which can raise or lower by turning the handle. At 80cm tall we recommend this for children between the ages of 2 years and 6 years old. You can pick this up Here.

This is a perfectly portable water table solution, it is like a water play station in a suitcase and it's great fun and so storage friendly. This one comes with 27 different accessories including an adorable little hippo on his boat that your child can guide through the many obstacles that they set up for it. It also has a real water mill and a working crane for extra fun. You can pick this up Here.
This is another of the best group water tables as the size of it is ideal for two or three children over 18 months. It comes with 13 different accessories and has a maze that can be rearranged for the water to fall in different ways. Your child can scoop up water from the bottom pond and pour it into the top and create their very own tropical rainforest shower. You can pick this up Here.
As you can probably tell Little Tikes have a great range of water tables available and are definitely one of the best at making them well and fun, well this one is no different except that it is probably the most fun out of them all. This one is a great STEM learning tool as it has so many different cause and effects. Your child can use the pump to fill up the water tower and then channel the water through the fountains, they must then set up the plumbing pipes to let the water flow. It really is great fun. You can pick this up Here.
